Aisle Containment

Aisle Containment

Aisle containment enables an existing cooling infrastructure to support higher heat loads and/or significantly improve cooling efficiency. The concept is to not allow air mixing of cool supply air and the hot air from the server exhaust.  A barrier is created so hot aisle air does not re-circulate to the cold aisle and the server intake. Cold aisle containment (CAC) encloses the entire cold aisle to concentrate and trap the cool supply air from CRAC units where it is needed most, at the server intake. Hot aisle containment (HAC) encloses the hot aisle where the warm air is directed back to CRAC unit.

Aisle containment systems can significantly increase cooling efficiency by allowing for the raising CRAC unit set points.  Alternatively, aisle containment can be used to achieve higher cooling densities with existing cooling infrastructure.
